About

Scott Nedderman, President [@scottned]

Scott is passionate about writing creative and elegant software and has written production applications for Priceline, Prodigy, The Gartner Group, Texas Instruments, Burlington Coat Factory and others.

Some of his more memorable projects have included: building (in the early 90’s) an object-oriented framework in C (yes, it’s possible) to handle retail transactions for Burlington Coat Factory; building a healthcare information system for Sabre Decision Technologies (that’s right, the “travel” company); creating one of the first instant messaging applications for Prodigy almost a year before AOL came out with theirs (too bad they didn’t listen to him and give it away for free). He also built much of the infrastructure for Priceline where he was awarded a patent on his design for managing session state in a web farm.

Somehow he also manages to be a vocalist, play guitar and penny whistle, occasionally perform in musicals, enjoy camping and be a homeschooling father of 6.

Chris Beck, Partner [@christopherbeck]

Chris got his start in programming by coding multi-user dungeons and football games back in the early 80’s. He started his first web consultancy in 1995 by offering to build websites for some of the restaurants he was working for. Soon after, he took over as webmaster for a Silicon Valley start-up named PlanetWeb, where he also had the pleasure of working on the Sega Dreamcast video game system. Later, he started consulting for Quovera, a fast-growing tech firm in Foster City, California. While working for Quovera, he was able to return home to Charlotte, NC, and telecommute. Through Quovera, Chris helped develop the multi-award winning Branders.com website, which has been the standard by which all other online promotional products websites are judged since its launch in 2000.

After Branders.com, Chris served as a technical lead and application architect for Wachovia’s 401K application for over 6 years. This enterprise Java application was considered to be a top-three focus of the bank during Chris’ tenure, and achieved considerable success in the Retirement Management market.

In addition to the Wachovia and Branders projects, and prior to joining Netphase, Chris has delivered production applications for Quovera, Planetweb, SportsMind, Goodrich and Converge to name a few.

Chris has been developing projects in Ruby on Rails since 2005, and prefers it to any other web development framework. Chris also has significant and relevant experience with various Java and PHP-based development frameworks as well.

In addition to consulting on web apps for Netphase, Chris also serves as Manager of Technical Solutions and lead developer for Datric, Inc., a Charlotte-based SAP consulting and technology company where he builds applications to facilitate the conversion process in Ruby on Rails.

Elsewhere on the Web

Occasionally, someone makes a mention of Netphase, Scott or Chris on the web. Here is one such mention:

Do the Hustle!, a Ruby on Rails consulting business presentation by Obie Fernandez, author of The Rails Way and founder of Hashrocket, showed the last iteration of netphase.com in one of its three examples of awesome Rails consulting website design. Thanks, Obie!
